Recently, I’ve been getting bombarded by marketing messages from people in my LinkedIn network. Even though I would love to find time to read each and every one of them, I have other commitments, and it’s virtually impossible to do so.
LinkedIn is a great professional networking site, but I’m starting to feel that it is becoming lack-lustre. Not because I think it’s a bad social networking site, but because of the abuse happening on a daily basis by many of its members. Therefore, I have decided to write this article in the hope of turning the tide.
The key to building your network via LinkedIn is to understand the etiquette involved. To be successful, you should think of it as face-to-face relationship, not a one-way "telemarketing" relationship.
To summarize, build a relationship before you start advertising your services. It’s not a one-way short term relationship. Yes, this might seem time-consuming, but it can be well worth it.
How much time do you spend on building relationships on LinkedIn? How successful have you been?

I totally agree with your comments, Zahi. (Read my question of the month posted last week which is along the same lines http://bit.ly/19oDHwz )
Bang on article Zahi, I feel your talk, thank you for sharing those very useful tips for professionals who actively or passively looking for a change inside their firms or outside including competitors. Myself; I've made connection only via email only which is already listed in my profile, but it's rare that people read "Advise to contact" section or skim a profile before connecting.
